The Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect is a class designed for new child welfare workers to give them an introduction to child abuse. Participants will participate by reading articles, watching videos, completing assignments, and participating in discussions on child abuse and neglect, risk factors that increase the possibility of abuse and neglect, recognize the effects of abuse and neglect on the developing child, identify specific characteristics of a child who is being abused, protective factors that can reduce the risk of maltreatment to a child and practice using the NHIA risk assessment tool.
