Legal Aspects and Legal Writing of Juvenile Probation & Parole

This course begins with an in-depth overview of the scope and purpose of the Juvenile Justice System along with a general overview of court system in New Hampshire. It will examine the obligations and powers bestowed unto the juvenile probation and parole officers within the legal framework of the court process. The training will walk through all the possible court proceedings from the filing of the petition until the case is closed in both delinquency and CHINS cases. It will go over the legal aspects of each step of the process and the JPPOs role in that process including filings, motions and hearings. The course will also focus on the JJ’s roles in the court room as the JJ partakes in simulations including writing violations of conditions of release and reports to the court, conducting violation of conditional release hearings, and testifying in court with mock trials. (15 hours with a 3 hour Zoom of courtroom simulations)
