Legal Aspects and Legal Writing of Family-Centered Child Protection

This training includes an in-depth overview of the scope and purpose of the Child Protection Act (RSA 169-C) with emphasis on the federal and state laws that bestow the obligations and authority onto the child protection worker. We will explore the various best practices and procedures as guided by the Model Court and Court Improvement Project’s,Abuse and Neglect Cases and Permanency PlanningProtocols as well as DCYF’s Policy Manual as we thoroughly discuss the court process of an abuse and neglect case in New Hampshire. We will focus on the various hearings and the court reports and writings involved at each step of the court process including exercises in legal writing including affidavit writing. This course will also focus on the worker’s role in the court room. There will be an overview on preparing to testify and tips for testifying while discussing the fundamentals of direct examination and cross examination. We will walk through various proceedings with mock trial courtroom simulations. (15 hours with a 3 hour Zoom of courtroom simulations)
